Overview

Brahmatal, nestled deep within the mighty Himalayas in Garhwal, boasts an altitude of 12,150 ft, making it a captivating winter trekking destination renowned worldwide. Steeped in mythological tales, the lake itself derives its name from Lord Brahma's purported meditation spot. Lohajung, the base camp, is a charming Himalayan village rich in culture and legends, offering a glimpse into the region's heritage.

During winter, Brahmatal's temperature is chilly but suitable for trekking, ranging from 0°C to 2°C during the day and dropping to -5°C to -10°C at night. The trek is also undertaken in the summer months when the weather remains cool and pleasant. Temperatures vary with altitude; lower camps enjoy temperatures around 10°C, while higher ones dip to around 2°C.

The frozen Brahmatal and Betal lakes provide stunning photographic opportunities, surrounded by panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges, including Trishul, Nandaghunti, Chowkhamba, Nilkanth, Kamet, Hathi, and Ghoda peaks. Brahmatal Trek offers a rare chance to witness these colossal peaks from such a low elevation. Trekking through snow-clad conifer, cedar, oak, and fir forests is a joy in the winter months, with sights like Ali Bugyal, Bedni Bugyal, and Junargali enhancing the experience. Camping by the lakeside, enjoying bonfires amidst the winter cold, and traversing enchanting snow-laden trails, Brahmatal Trek in winter is a dreamlike adventure come true.
